so this past weekend was the urban detectives workshop for local teenagers in anyang. this was a two day workshop help in and around open school in hakwon park. the students were participatory and engaged. they made interesting observations and created unique user experience maps that showed the city of anyang as seen through their lives.
On the first day the students were split up into three teams and sent out to discover the neighborhoods surrounding Hakwon Park. Each group was to observe and analyze a different part of the city and share their insights with the other teams. Each team was equipped with mappers, photographers and note-takers in order to look at the city in various ways. My awesome team!! 
On this adventure, they mapped their route onto paper, took pictures of sights they liked, disliked or found intriguing. Others team members interviewed residents along the path. They made observations of the physical environment, the citizens they encountered and their personal opinions of spaces. Each team also analyzed what those observations meant about what a city is and what it means to the people who live in them. We printed the pictures that night to use the next day:

On the second day,everyone met together at Open School. At the beginning of the first day we had drawn a large map together of what we already knew about Anyang. Upon returning the second day, we placed a transparent piece of paper over the first map and drew in what had been discovered while exploring the day before. This consisted of the routes taken, locations of interviews and drawings of observations as well as the placement of pictures taken along the route with notes added.
Afterwards, we sat around the map and discussed each teams discoveries.
Finally, each team was given the task of creating a design proposal of how each area could be improved to become a better public space for citizens. After deciding on one proposal concept, each team created a board to present that concept. At the end, each team presented their proposal to the rest of the group.
